Command Master Chief Samuel B. Vasquez is a native of Carlsbad, New Mexico. CMDCM Vasquez started his naval career in October 1997 at RTC, Great Lakes, IL. He graduated from Aviation Machinist Mate Common Core A School in 1998 and attended Aviation Machinist Mate C School, Turboprop Aircraft prior to his first permanent duty assignment.
His sea duty tours include Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron TWO (VQ-2), Patrol Squadron FOUR (VP-4), Consolidated Maintenance Organization (CMO) TEN, and Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE ONE SEVEN (VAW-117).
Ashore, he served at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes as a Recruit Division Commander and Fleet Quality Assurance Inspector, and earned his Master Training Specialist. In July 2016, he was assigned as the Brigade Master Chief for the United States Naval Academy. Command Master Chief Vasquez is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 223 Purple), and the CMC/COB course (Class 100).
He has completed four deployments and eight detachments to the Third Fleet, Fourth Fleet, Fifth Fleet, Sixth Fleet and Seventh Fleet AORs and embarked onboard USS Nimitz and USS Truman. He served in Operations DELIBERATE FORGE, JOINT GUARDIAN, and Operation ALLIED FORCE supporting peace keeping efforts in Bosnia, and Kosovo. He also served in Operations NORTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE, OEF PHILIPPINES, Southeast Asia Tsunami Relief, and Syria Contingency.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eight awards) and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
Master Chief Vasquez holds an Associates Degree from Columbia College of Missouri. He assumed his current assignment as CMC of the VAQ-131 Lancers in July 2019.
